How Tutoring Works:
Step 1: Assess
We start by figuring out where your student stands. That might mean a quick diagnostic, going through past tests, or talking through what’s been difficult.
NOTE: For all SAT and ACT students, we start with an official practice test to establish a true baseline score. These tests are completely free and available on the College Board and ACT websites.
Step 2: Build a Plan
I create a clear plan based on goals, upcoming tests, and the concepts that need the most attention.
Step 3: Teach & Practice
In sessions, we break down difficult ideas, work through examples together, and make sure your student can do the problems on their own. No generic worksheets, everything is targeted.
Step 4: Track & Adjust
I keep track of what’s improving and what still needs work. If the class moves ahead or a test is coming up, we shift the plan so your student always stays prepared.
The Results My Method Leads to:

FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers
Most sessions are one hour. Some students who are preparing for exams or want extra practice book longer sessions, but an hour works well for most.
Most students meet once or twice a week. For SAT prep, one session per week combined with assigned homework works well. For students who are catching up in class or aiming for a big score increase, twice a week helps speed things up.
For SAT students, yes. Each week comes with a structured homework plan that usually adds up to two or three hours of study time, including review and practice sets. For school subjects, homework is optional and based on the student’s goals.
I switch between explaining, guided practice, and short problem-solving challenges so the student stays involved and never zones out. The pace adjusts based on how well they’re understanding the material.
A lot of students know the content but struggle with pacing, pressure, or applying concepts in new ways. I work on test strategy, pattern recognition, and the specific types of questions teachers and exams tend to use.
That’s normal. I ask questions, look at recent work, and take the lead in identifying what needs attention. Students don’t need to prepare anything special.
Yes. If a student needs help staying organized, planning their time, or building study habits, I include that as part of tutoring. This often becomes a key part of improvement.
Yes. I can look at teacher comments, rubrics, or assignment notes to make sure tutoring lines up with what’s expected in class.
I have students take a diagnostic for both exams so we can compare timing, accuracy, and overall comfort. Some students perform better on the SAT because it gives more time per question and leans heavily on math and reading logic. Others prefer the ACT’s faster pace and more straightforward questions, especially if they’re strong with quick mental math or like the style of the science section. Once we look at both diagnostics, it becomes clear which test is the better fit.
